Apatite comes from the Greek word apatáō, meaning “to deceive,” because in its raw form it is very easy to mistake it for other minerals. Gem-quality apatite is less common, and most apatite is used to make phosphate for fertilizer or as a source of rare-earth metals like uranium and thorium.
I ordered a pound of polished apatite slabs. The pound consisted of 10 pieces for the same price as I would have paid for one slab from other sources.
