Jasper is an aggregate stone, formed from combinations of quartz, chalcedony, and other minerals that all affect the resulting colors or patterns that form. Red jasper takes its color from heavy iron inclusions. Brecciated jasper forms when jasper deposits break apart then meld back together over time, which can result in angular inclusions and banding.
