Sunstone is a gemstone variety of feldspar, a kind of metamorphic rock. Tiny scales and inclusions of copper, hematite, and goethite give it both its orange color and a schiller or glitter effect. This schiller is similar enough to aventurine that sunstone is sometimes also called aventurine-feldspar.
Apatite comes from the Greek word apatáō, meaning "to deceive," because in its raw form it is very easy to mistake it for other minerals. Gem-quality apatite is less common, and most apatite is used to make phosphate for fertilizer or as a source of rare-earth metals like uranium and thorium.
