Seam agate forms similarly to normal agate, where layers of quartz, chalcedony, and other minerals form inside a host rock. Seam agate forms inside of cracks in the host rock rather than pockets, which results in parallel banding instead of agate’s normal round or wavy patterns. While seam agate can be found all over the world, the most well-known specimens come from Morocco.
