QTY 1 - Mexican Jelly Fire Opals / 3 OZ of Stones in Jar of Water
Mexican Jelly Fire Opals
For nearly 100 years, Mexico has been the primary fire opal source in the world. Fire opal is a mineral opal variety, red, orange or yellow in color. Sometimes fire opals that do not display "color play" are referred to as jelly opals. Opal is classified by defining "color play," or the way in which colors change within a particular stone as it is rotated. The "fire opal" is a semi-translucent opal ranging in color from yellow to orange to bright red.
This particular set of Mexican Jelly Fire Opals are mainly red and orange with little to no "color play". In each jar there is possibly 1-4 pieces that will have some "color play." You can see an example in the close up photos. We store the opals in jars of water to keep them from drying out and cracking. Opals have a high water makeup.
