Sodalite is a silica-based mineral with a high concentration of sodium. While the bulk of the stone is a royal blue often used in paint pigment, it can also contain inclusions of calcite and quartz, resulting in white streaks. While it is commonly mistaken for lapis lazuli, sodalite does not contain any pyrite inclusions the way lapis does, and any orange or brown inclusions are typically feldspar.
