Chocolate calcite is more properly known as brown aragonite, a crystal that can be found in a surprising number of places. While most aragonite is mined from veins of metamorphic rock, it can also be found inside mollusk shells and on coral growths, and it is widely used when recreating reef conditions for aquariums.
