Libyan Desert Glass, also known as Libyan Gold Tektite, is a naturally occurring glass formed by the intense heat of a meteoritic impact. Its composition is primarily silicon dioxide (SiO2), with traces of other elements that give it its characteristic color. Ranges in transparency from completely clear to opaque and can contain inclusions or bubbles. It has a Mohs hardness of about 5.5, making it relatively soft compared to other gemstones. This pale yellow to greenish-yellow glass is found in the eastern Sahara, in the deserts of eastern Libya and western Egypt.
