Pink tourmaline, also known as rubellite, is a rare member of the Elbaite family of tourmalines. Its pink-to-rose-red color is derived from the inclusion of manganese ions in its crystalline structure. Pink tourmaline has sometimes been mistaken for ruby and can be used as a color substitute for it in jewelry.
