Emerald is a variety of the mineral beryl composed of beryllium, aluminum, and silicate. It forms in hydrothermal veins and pegmatites, where mineral-rich fluids crystallize under high temperature and pressure. Its green color is caused primarily by trace amounts of chromium and sometimes vanadium within the crystal structure. Brazilian emeralds often display a range of green tones and may contain natural inclusions, fractures, or zoning typical of beryl crystals. These stones are widely used in jewelry and are also collected in mineral specimens.
