Diopside is a semi-precious stone often found in metamorphic limestone deposits or alongside olivine-rich volcanic basalt veins. While most diopside is a dull green, diopside can sometimes contain chromium that turns it a bright green, whereas inclusions of magnetite or ilmenite can result in a deep black color.
