Formed when boron forms compounds with iron-sodium molecules, Schorl black tourmaline, or simply black tourmaline, derives its name from the German village of Zschorlau where it was first discovered in a nearby tin mine in the late 1300s. This black tourmaline also includes small amounts of quartz, calcite, and mica on rock matrix.
