Malachite is an intense green copper carbonate mineral, and is typically found in copper-rich limestone deposits along with its cousin mineral azurite. Malachite was historically used in green paint pigments, but is much more commonly used for decorative pieces and jewelry. These malachite freeforms are covered in a layer of chrysocolla, a similar copper-based mineral often found near malachite deposits.
