Stichtite is a special variety of serpentine. It forms when serpentine that contains chromite deposits undergoes further metamorphic processes, changing the color to a unique purple. This process does not always change the color of the entire stone, and stichtite that still has veins of green serpentine is sometimes found under the trade name atlantisite.
