It belongs to the mica group, a family of sheet silicate minerals known for their perfect cleavage, which allows them to split into thin, flexible sheets. Lepidolite is a potassium, lithium, and aluminum-rich mica with the chemical formula K(Li,Al)₃(Si,Al)₄O₁₀(F,OH)₂. It contains lithium, which gives it its distinctive purple, pink, or lavender color. Trace amounts of manganese can deepen its color to more vibrant purple shades.
