Dolomite is a sedimentary rock composed primarily of calcium magnesium carbonate. It forms from the accumulation of deposited sediments of carbonate minerals that go through a process called lithification in which, the individual sediments are compressed into rock. An alternative name sometimes used for the dolomitic rock type is dolostone.
