Ammolite is an opal-like organic gemstone made of the fossilized shells of ammonites, which in turn are composed primarily of aragonite. One of the rarest gemstones in the world, ammolite is unique to a geological deposit along the eastern slopes of the Rock Mountains of North America known as the "Bearpaw Formation."
